NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A cool, calm fall night will bring frosty conditions to parts of southern Connecticut and northeast New Jersey overnight tonight, from midnight until 9AM Friday, as temperatures fall into the mid-30s beneath clear skies.

According to the National Weather Service in New York (Upton), a Frost Advisory remains in effect for Southern New Haven, Southern Middlesex, and Southern New London counties in Connecticut, along with Eastern Passaic and Western Bergen counties in New Jersey. Overnight lows near 34 degrees will be cold enough for patchy frost to develop, especially inland from the shoreline.

Forecasters caution that frost could harm or kill sensitive plants if left uncovered. Residents are urged to bring potted flowers indoors, cover gardens and tender vegetation, and disconnect outdoor hoses to prevent damage. The risk is highest in inland valleys and rural neighborhoods, where wind and urban heat are minimal.

Commuters may notice frost on windshields early Friday morning, though temperatures will warm quickly once the sun rises. According to meteorologists, this will be one of the first widespread frost events of the season for southern New England and northern New Jersey.

Milder conditions are expected this weekend, with daytime highs rebounding into the 60s. However, another round of cool air may bring additional frost potential early next week, particularly away from the coast.
