Cordova, TN – A deadly two-vehicle crash in Cordova has now been ruled a homicide, leading to the arrest of the victim’s wife, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called around 9:55 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, to a crash with injuries near Houston Levee Road and Macon Road in Cordova. When deputies arrived, they found one vehicle in a ditch off the roadway while Shelby County Fire crews worked to save the driver.

Deputies identified the driver as 56-year-old Derrick Curtis. He was transported to Regional One in critical condition and later pronounced deceased. During the early stages of the investigation, deputies determined that Curtis had suffered severe, life-threatening injuries before the collision, and that those injuries played a role in the crash.

According to investigators with the SCSO violent crimes unit, detectives immediately launched a deeper investigation into what happened before the wreck. Through their findings, detectives determined the injuries sustained by Curtis were not accidental. They identified his wife, Sheila Curtis, 56, as the individual allegedly responsible.

Sheila Curtis was taken into custody and is now charged with Second-Degree Murder, investigators said. No additional details about the nature of the injuries or circumstances leading up to the alleged assault have been released.

The investigation remains ongoing, and deputies say more information will be provided as the case develops.
