Shelby County, TN – A 33-year-old woman is facing multiple felony charges following a deadly shooting Monday evening at an apartment complex in southeast Shelby County.
According to the Shelby County Sheriffโs Office, deputies responded around 6:15 p.m. Monday to a disturbance and shots fired call in the 7800 block of Capital Peak Lane East at the Centennial Gardens Apartments. When deputies arrived, they encountered a woman allegedly vandalizing vehicles in the parking lot and attempting to leave the scene in a vehicle.
Investigators identified the suspect as Jasmine Schreane, 33. Authorities said Schreane allegedly exited her vehicle before deputies arrived and began shooting at two individuals who were sitting inside a car. A female victim, later identified as 32-year-old Leah Carnes, was struck during the gunfire.
Carnes was transported by personal vehicle to Methodist Germantown Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, officials said.
Detectives determined through further investigation that the shooting occurred prior to deputies arriving at the apartment complex. Schreane was detained at the scene and repeatedly identified by investigators as the alleged shooter.
She was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder, Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder and Felony Vandalism. Jail records indicate she remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Shelby County Sheriffโs Office.
