Milwaukee, WI – A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday for counties along Lake Michigan, stretching from Sheboygan to Milwaukee, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Forecasters warn that visibility may fall to one-quarter mile or less at times, creating hazardous travel conditions for morning commuters. The advisory, issued at 1:41 a.m., highlights patchy areas of dense fog forming along the shoreline. Other parts of southeast Wisconsin may also experience reduced visibility.

According to the NWS, drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra distance between vehicles, and use low beam headlights. High-beam lights can reflect off the fog, worsening visibility.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s highway cameras, including one at I-43 and Highway 28 in Sheboygan, showed low visibility early Thursday morning. Travel impacts are expected to lessen later in the morning as fog gradually lifts.

Dense fog advisories are common near Lake Michigan when moist air settles overnight, particularly during late summer and early fall. Commuters should prepare for sudden changes in visibility, especially in low-lying areas and near water.

Motorists are encouraged to monitor real-time road conditions before traveling.
