Little Rock, Ark. – Damaging winds and large hail are possible across 20 Arkansas counties through 11 p.m. Sunday as a line of strong thunderstorms sweeps across the northern half of the state.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 289 includes Baxter, Boone, Faulkner, Independence, Pope, and surrounding counties. Storms may produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to quarter-size, especially along U.S. Highway 65 and near the Ozark foothills.
Cities such as Conway, Mountain Home, Searcy, and Batesville should prepare for fast-moving storms that could down trees, damage roofs, and create hazardous travel conditions into the night. Emergency managers urge residents to secure loose outdoor items and stay weather-aware, especially if commuting after sunset.
Drivers along I-40 and U.S. 67 may encounter brief low visibility, slick roads, or downed limbs. Residents are encouraged to charge devices, monitor local alerts, and move indoors if thunder is heard nearby.
Storm activity may intensify or shift southward later tonight. Additional watches or warnings could follow as conditions evolve across central Arkansas.
