South Bend, IN – The National Weather Service has issued an enhanced risk alert for severe thunderstorms across Northern Indiana tonight. The Storm Prediction Center updated the forecast, expanding the highest risk area and indicating severe weather conditions are imminent.

According to the NWS, the storms are expected to begin around 10 p.m. and continue through 4 a.m. The primary threats include wind gusts up to 75 mph, heavy rain, and the possibility of minor flooding. The best shot for severe conditions is west of IN-9, where the threat level is highest.

Confidence remains high regarding the occurrence of strong storms, though there is lesser confidence in predicting their exact intensity and path. The storm system’s uncertainty means residents throughout Northern Indiana should stay alert and prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions.

Severe hazards include wind gusts reaching 60-70 mph, with the potential for gusts exceeding 75 mph in the enhanced risk area. Heavy rainfall may lead to minor flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. There is also a chance of tornadoes and large hail in some regions.
