Severe Weather: Thunderstorms Expected North of I-80 up to Illinois Wisconsin Boarder

Chicago, IL – Residents north of I-80 should prepare for scattered thunderstorms through Friday. The National Weather Service reports that the highest chances for thunderstorms today are concentrated in this region, with peak heat indices expected to reach 90 to 100 degrees. Cooler temperatures near Lake Michigan will range from the mid-70s to low 80s.

According to the National Weather Service, the main thunderstorm chances on Friday will occur near the Wisconsin-Illinois state line. As the week progresses, a cold front moving in on Saturday evening will significantly increase storm activity. This front will bring the best chances for thunderstorms overnight Saturday, accompanied by slightly cooler temperatures that will remain above normal on Sunday and Monday.

The peak heat index on Saturday north of I-80 is forecasted to reach 95 to 100 degrees, making it one of the hottest days of the week. By Sunday, breezy conditions and temperatures between 85 and 90 degrees will prevail, with the storm risk diminishing. Monday’s forecast predicts mostly sunny skies and temperatures ranging from 85 to 90 degrees.
