St. Louis, MO – A massive storm system is set to bring severe weather, including baseball-sized hail, tornadoes, and the potential for significant flooding, across parts of the Midwest tonight.

The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe weather outlook for multiple states, including Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, and others, with the storm stretching from the ArkLaTex to the lower Ohio Valley. According to the NWS, the region will face multiple threats from severe thunderstorms this evening and into the night.

The greatest risks include several tornadoes—some potentially intense—large hail, and damaging winds. Areas like western Arkansas and southeast Missouri are at the highest risk for strong to potentially violent tornadoes. In addition to these hazards, widespread flooding is possible due to the heavy rainfall accompanying the storms.

Residents across the affected states are urged to stay alert, review their severe weather safety plans, and monitor local forecasts. A tornado watch has been issued, signaling the possibility of tornado development in the coming hours. If a tornado warning is issued, individuals are urged to take immediate shelter in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

This storm system is one of the largest and most dangerous weather events the region has faced this year, with multiple hazards affecting a wide swath of the Midwest. Stay safe and stay prepared as the severe weather unfolds tonight.
