Lake Charles, LA – Severe storms are expected today across Lake Charles and surrounding areas, bringing an elevated tornado risk, damaging winds, and flooding potential. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Moderate Risk (Level 4/5) for severe weather, urging residents to stay weather-aware.
According to the NWS, thunderstorms will develop throughout Saturday morning, intensifying by midday and lasting into the evening. These storms may produce significant tornadoes, large hail exceeding one inch in diameter, and wind gusts over 58 mph. Areas near the I-10 corridor face the greatest tornado risks, while flash flooding is possible across low-lying areas.
Rainfall totals are expected to reach up to an inch or more by Saturday night, exacerbating flood risks. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m., further reducing visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions.
Looking ahead, a 30% chance of lingering showers remains Saturday night, with temperatures cooling to 54°F. Sunday will bring sunny skies, with highs near 69°F and calm winds, offering a brief reprieve before potential weather changes midweek.
