Kansas City, KS — A major spring storm system is set to bring severe thunderstorms to much of the central United States beginning Tuesday, April 1, and continuing through the overnight hours into Wednesday. The National Weather Service warns that this multi-day severe weather event could produce isolated thunderstorms, large hail, and strong tornadoes, particularly across Kansas and the southern Plains.
According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday’s storms will primarily affect central Kansas, with additional isolated severe thunderstorms possible in parts of the southern Plains by late afternoon and into the evening. The severe weather will be capable of producing hazardous conditions such as very large hail, with stones exceeding 2 inches in diameter, and potentially strong tornadoes.
The storm system’s intensity will increase as it moves eastward, affecting the Midwest and Mississippi River Valley on Wednesday, April 2. A more widespread severe threat is expected to develop during the afternoon and continue overnight into Thursday, bringing the possibility of long-track supercells capable of producing dangerous tornadoes and very large hail.
Residents in affected areas are urged to stay informed and take all necessary precautions. Local authorities recommend securing loose outdoor items, monitoring weather alerts, and preparing for possible power outages and property damage.
Stay tuned for further updates as conditions develop.
