Fort Wayne, IN – The National Weather Service has issued a warning for severe weather across Northern Indiana this evening, with significant threats of large hail, damaging winds, and a slight tornado risk. The most severe weather is expected to occur after 6 p.m. EDT, continuing into the evening hours.
According to the National Weather Service’s latest update, the region is facing a 30% chance of quarter- to golf-ball-sized hail, especially along the U.S. 30 corridor. Damaging winds with gusts reaching up to 75 mph are also likely, with isolated pockets experiencing wind speeds over 80 mph. The risk for tornado development remains lower but still possible, with a 5% to 10% chance of a tornado forming, particularly in areas south of U.S. 24.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay informed of changing weather conditions and take shelter if severe storms develop. Officials urge those in mobile homes or other vulnerable structures to seek more secure shelter during high winds.
