Indianapolis, Indiana – Severe thunderstorms could bring 70 mph winds, heavy rain, and localized flash flooding across central Indiana Saturday afternoon, with the highest threat between 1 and 7 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Level 2 (Slight) risk is in place for much of central Indiana, including Indianapolis, Lafayette, and Kokomo. The primary threats include damaging wind gusts, isolated 1-inch hail, and flooding in low-lying areas. While tornado risk is low, forecasters caution that storm development remains uncertain and residents should monitor updates.

Counties under the heightened threat include Marion, Tippecanoe, Howard, and surrounding areas. Interstate corridors such as I-65 and I-70 may see reduced visibility and hazardous travel conditions during peak commuting hours. Power outages are also possible due to downed trees and power lines.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and avoid driving through flooded roads. Those with weekend plans should consider alternate indoor activities and check alerts frequently via NOAA Weather Radio or trusted mobile apps.

Storms are expected to clear by Saturday evening, but more alerts may follow if confidence in severe development increases.
