Manhattan, IL – A large area of Manhattan Township, including the entirety of Ranch Oaks Subdivision, was struck by a suspected tornado on Monday at approximately 9:30 p.m. The severe weather brought damaging winds and heavy rainfall, causing significant disruptions and damage throughout the area.
According to the Manhattan Fire Protection District, first responders and emergency teams promptly responded to the affected areas. Powerlines and trees are down throughout Manhattan and Wilton Center, leading to widespread power outages. ComEd has been notified of the situation and is working to restore electricity.
Residents are urged to avoid downed power lines and fallen trees for their safety. The Ranch Oaks Subdivision will remain closed for an extended period as crews work to clear debris and restore order. Fortunately, no injuries to civilians or firefighters have yet been reported.
