Morehead City, NC – A tornado watch has been issued until 11 PM tonight for several counties in eastern North Carolina, including Duplin, Onslow, Carteret, Jones, and Craven. Residents in these areas are urged to stay vigilant and prepare for potential severe weather conditions.

According to the US National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC, conditions are favorable for tornado formation. This watch indicates that while tornadoes are not yet occurring, the atmospheric conditions are conducive to their development. A tornado watch typically covers a large area and can last for several hours.

Residents should have a plan in place and monitor local weather reports for updates. The National Weather Service emphasizes the importance of knowing the difference between a watch and a warning. A tornado warning means that a tornado is either occurring or imminent, and immediate action should be taken to ensure safety.

In addition to the risk of tornadoes, the weather alert includes the possibility of isolated hail up to half an inch in size and wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph. This severe weather could impact a population of over 1.2 million people, including 270 schools and 19 hospitals.
