Wichita, KS – Additional thunderstorms are expected to develop across central and southeastern Kansas, with potential hazards including large hail, strong winds, and tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service, the storms could bring hail as large as golf balls, wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph, and the possibility of tornadoes. These severe conditions are likely to affect the area shaded in yellow on the forecast map, including cities like Wichita, Emporia, Chanute, and Eureka, with the risk extending until 5 a.m. on April 2.
Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert and ensure multiple ways of receiving weather warnings. In the event of severe storms, stay away from windows and seek shelter immediately. As the storms move through, drivers should exercise caution, particularly on highways near Wichita and surrounding regions.
While hail and damaging winds remain a primary concern, the potential for tornadoes should not be ruled out, and further updates will be provided by local authorities as conditions change.
