Huntsville, AL – A medium chance of thunderstorms is forecast to impact northwest Alabama starting this evening and lasting through Thursday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a weather alert warning of possible severe weather, including heavy rain, flash flooding, and large hail. Severe conditions are expected to primarily affect areas in the yellow and orange zones, with the risk of severe storms being much lower in the southeast parts of the state.

According to the NWS, the cold front expected to stall to the northwest of the region will bring 20-60% chances of thunderstorms, with the highest risk of severe weather focused in far northwest Alabama. Areas in the green zones have a lower likelihood of experiencing thunderstorms.

The NWS is urging residents to monitor the weather closely and have multiple sources for receiving warnings. Flash flooding, damaging winds, and tornadoes remain the main hazards, though the likelihood of these conditions occurring in southern regions is lessened. The weather service encourages individuals to check for updates throughout the evening and overnight, ensuring they are prepared for any changes.

Local authorities advise that people in affected areas be vigilant and stay informed through sources such as NOAA weather radios or local TV stations.
