Central Minnesota – The National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of Central Minnesota, Eastern North Dakota, and Northeast South Dakota. The watch is in effect from 11:35 PM CDT Sunday night until 7:00 AM CDT Monday morning.

According to the NWS, primary threats include scattered large hail likely, with isolated hail events reaching up to 2.5 inches in diameter. Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts up to 75 mph are also possible.

Thunderstorms are expected to spread southeastward through the early morning hours, posing significant threats of large hail and damaging winds. The watch area covers approximately 75 miles east and west of a line from 40 miles east-northeast of Garrison, ND, to 5 miles southwest of Watertown, SD.

The NWS advises that a severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Residents should remain vigilant for threatening weather conditions and listen for further statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can occasionally produce tornadoes.
