Kansas City, Missouri – Severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across Missouri Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday, bringing a mix of dangerous weather conditions including large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Drivers and residents in Kansas City and surrounding areas should prepare for potential flash flooding and power outages overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, storms will intensify late Tuesday and continue through the early hours of Wednesday, with rainfall totals reaching 1 to 4 inches in some areas. A Level 3 out of 5 risk for severe storms has been issued for much of west-central Missouri, including cities like Sedalia, Columbia, and Warrensburg. The primary threats are 60–70 mph wind gusts, hail over 1 inch in diameter, and the possibility of an isolated tornado.

The heaviest rainfall is expected across central and western Missouri, particularly along the I-70 and US-65 corridors. Flash flooding could occur in low-lying or poorly drained areas. The weather service urges residents to avoid travel during peak storm hours, keep devices charged, and secure outdoor items that could become projectiles in high wind.

The threat is expected to ease by early Wednesday, but additional watches or warnings may be issued depending on how storms develop overnight.
