Springfield, Missouri – Severe thunderstorms continue to sweep through southern Missouri Thursday, bringing wind gusts up to 60 mph, small hail, and intense downpours to the region through early evening hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, storms developing across far southern Missouri—including areas near Branson, West Plains, and Poplar Bluff—could become strong, with isolated damaging winds and brief torrential rainfall expected. A marginal risk for severe weather remains in place through tonight.
Cities like Branson, West Plains, and Doniphan could see quick-moving storm cells capable of downing branches, reducing visibility, and creating localized power outages. While large hail isn’t widespread, small hail remains possible within stronger cells. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, particularly on U.S. Route 60 and Highway 65, as heavy rain may cause ponding on roadways.
Residents in affected counties are advised to monitor weather apps and NOAA radio for possible warnings. Now is a good time to secure loose outdoor items and ensure mobile devices are charged in case of outages.
Storm activity is expected to taper off after sunset, though additional thunderstorm chances could return Friday afternoon.
