According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, a strong cold front is moving through the region, producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and the potential for isolated tornadoes. Heavy rain may lead to localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. Coastal residents should also prepare for dangerous surf conditions, with waves as high as 8 feet.
Overnight, storms will continue before gradually clearing by Tuesday afternoon. Winds will shift from the south to the north, bringing cooler but calmer conditions. Tuesday will see sunny skies and a high near 66°F, with winds calming into the evening.
Looking ahead, spring officially begins on Thursday, and the region will experience a warming trend. Wednesday and Thursday will be sunny, with highs in the upper 60s. A slight chance of showers returns Thursday evening, but Friday and Saturday are expected to be dry and warm, with highs near 70°F.
