Pittsburgh, PA – A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania until 9 PM EDT Wednesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh announced that the watch may be expanded further south if new storms develop in central Ohio.

According to the NWS, areas under the watch include Cleveland, Erie, Pittsburgh, New Castle, State College, Binghamton, and Scranton. The primary threats are isolated hail up to the size of ping pong balls, scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph, and frequent lightning. Approximately 5.6 million people, 1,806 schools, and 146 hospitals are within the watch zone.
