Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for South-Central Kansas and Northern Oklahoma

Norman, OK – The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for south-central Kansas and northern Oklahoma, effective from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. CDT on Tuesday.

According to the NWS, clusters of thunderstorms will move east-northeast across the watch area throughout the evening. These storms could produce damaging wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph.

The watch area extends approximately 60 miles east and west of a line from 35 miles west-northwest of Emporia, Kansas, to 30 miles west-southwest of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Residents in these regions should remain alert for severe weather conditions and listen for updates and possible warnings.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch indicates that conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms, which can occasionally produce tornadoes. Precautionary actions are advised.
