Helena, MT – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of Montana, effective from 4:55 PM MDT Tuesday until midnight. This alert covers northern, central, and eastern regions of the state.
According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop and intensify throughout the evening. Primary threats include damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph and large hail up to 2 inches in diameter. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and monitor local weather updates.
The NWS warns that severe thunderstorms can occasionally produce tornadoes. People in the affected areas should take necessary precautions and stay indoors during the storm. The severe thunderstorm watch area extends approximately 90 miles north and south of a line from 75 miles north-northwest of Drummond to 20 miles northeast of Glendive.
