Huntsville, Ala. – Strong storms are moving across the region this evening, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for parts of Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia until 11 p.m. CDT Sunday. Damaging winds up to 60 mph and large hail are the main threats, with isolated power outages and tree damage possible.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, the watch area includes 14 counties in northern Alabama—such as Madison, Cullman, and DeKalb—as well as eight counties in southern Tennessee, including Hamilton, Marion, and Franklin. In northwest Georgia, six counties are under alert, including Walker, Catoosa, and Floyd.

Cities like Huntsville, Chattanooga, and Rome could see storm cells intensify through the evening hours. Local emergency officials are urging residents to stay indoors, secure outdoor items, and have weather alerts enabled on phones or NOAA radios.

High winds may bring down limbs and impact travel on routes like I-24, I-59, and US-72. Hikers and campers in elevated or wooded areas are advised to seek shelter immediately.

This storm system is part of a larger pattern moving east overnight. Additional watches or warnings may be issued. Residents should monitor updates through midnight as conditions evolve.
