Raleigh, NC – A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of Eastern North Carolina, Eastern South Carolina, Southeast Virginia, and coastal waters, effective from 2:35 PM until 10:00 PM EDT on Monday, April 7, 2025. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that severe storms could bring damaging wind gusts of up to 70 MPH and a possible tornado or two.

According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, clusters of strong storms, including bowing segments, are expected to continue through the afternoon and evening, with the primary threat being wind damage. A few tornadoes may develop, though they are considered less likely.

The watch area spans roughly 60 miles east and west of a line from 40 miles southwest of Myrtle Beach, SC to 30 miles north of Elizabeth City, NC. Coastal waters are also included in the alert.

Residents are urged to stay vigilant and monitor weather updates as conditions may rapidly change. Severe thunderstorms can sometimes produce tornadoes, so those in the watch area should be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued.
