Chicago, IL – Severe thunderstorms are expected to affect parts of the southern Plains through the Upper Great Lakes starting this afternoon, with the potential for dangerous weather lasting until early Saturday morning. Areas from Texas to Illinois could see large to very large hail, damaging wind gusts, and a few tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service, storms will be most concentrated across the southern Plains, impacting areas like Oklahoma City, Wichita Falls, and Fort Worth, Texas. These regions could face severe wind gusts and large hail, making travel hazardous. Tornadoes are also possible, although less frequent.

Farther north, cities like St. Louis, Chicago, and Indianapolis may experience intense thunderstorms with wind gusts and hail, though the risk of tornadoes is lower.

Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert, secure outdoor items, and monitor local weather updates. Storms may cause delays or cancellations in travel, and the National Weather Service recommends preparing for power outages.
