Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service has issued a high swim risk alert for beaches along southern Lake Michigan, effective this evening through Thursday morning. Strong onshore winds behind a cold front are expected to create dangerous conditions, with waves reaching 3 to 6 feet.
According to the National Weather Service, life-threatening currents will develop along the shores of Illinois and Indiana. Beachgoers are advised to stay out of the water, obey posted signs and closures, and avoid piers, breakwalls, and lakeshore trails during this period.
The weather forecast for Wednesday predicts cloudy skies in the morning with temperatures starting at 71°F, rising to a high of 83°F by the afternoon as the skies clear. Thursday will see cooler temperatures with a high of 74°F and sunny conditions.
Looking ahead, Friday and Saturday bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures in the low 80s. Sunday will return to sunny skies with highs between 71°F and 76°F. Residents and visitors are urged to remain cautious and heed warnings when near the lake to ensure their safety during these hazardous conditions.
