Albuquerque, N.M. – Dangerously high temperatures will roast much of New Mexico Sunday, with highs reaching up to 105°F in the Rio Grande Valley and Southeast Plains. A Heat Advisory is in effect for these areas Sunday afternoon, prompting health and safety warnings for residents and travelers.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, the advisory covers cities like Albuquerque, Socorro, and Roswell, where widespread 100s are expected. The advisory highlights a moderate to major heat risk, especially for vulnerable populations without access to adequate cooling. Temperatures will remain well above normal through at least Tuesday, potentially breaking daily records.

Roswell is forecast to hit 106°F Sunday and climb as high as 109°F early next week. Albuquerque may see triple digits from Sunday through Tuesday. Officials urge limiting outdoor activities between 2 and 9 p.m., the hottest period each day, and advise using air conditioning over fans where possible.

Meanwhile, a marginal risk of severe storms exists Saturday afternoon and evening for the far eastern plains, including Clovis and Clayton. Wind gusts and isolated hail are possible between 2 and 9 p.m.

More advisories could be issued as heat builds into early next week. Stay hydrated and monitor updates via weather.gov/abq.
