Birmingham, AL – The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Level 1 of 5 risk for severe storms across Central Alabama from early Tuesday morning through Tuesday night.
Forecasters say multiple rounds of storms may develop as early as before sunrise in northwest Alabama, spreading southeast through the day. The main threats include damaging winds up to 60 mph, isolated brief tornadoes, and hail up to the size of quarters.
Storms could persist into Tuesday evening, especially along the I-85 corridor, as a cold front moves slowly southeast across the region.
Residents are urged to stay weather aware, have multiple ways to receive alerts, and identify a safe place in case warnings are issued.
