A strong storm system will develop over the Southern Plains on Wednesday before moving east into Louisiana on Thursday. A cold front will push through, bringing widespread thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lake Charles, scattered thunderstorms will intensify Thursday afternoon into the night. Some storms could become severe, producing damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Flash flooding is also possible in areas that receive prolonged heavy rainfall.

The NWS warns that the risk of severe weather is moderate to high across much of Louisiana. Forecasters urge residents to monitor updates and prepare for changing conditions. Individuals with outdoor plans should stay weather-aware and have a safety plan in place.

Stay updated with local alerts, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Officials recommend securing loose outdoor items and avoiding travel during severe storms.
