Duluth, Minnesota – Strong to severe storms could sweep through north-central Minnesota as early as 3 a.m. Saturday, with damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph and quarter-sized hail posing threats to overnight travelers and early risers.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, tonight’s storms will develop after a lull in precipitation, peaking between 3 and 7 a.m. Saturday in central Minnesota. Areas at greatest risk include Brainerd, Little Falls, and Aitkin. A Level 1 out of 5 severe risk is in place for this early Saturday window.
Saturday afternoon through Saturday night brings a renewed round of severe storms, this time with increased threats across central Minnesota and into northwest Wisconsin. Storm intensity will hinge on how long morning rain persists. Affected cities could see large hail, damaging winds over 60 mph, and isolated tornadoes. Flash flooding is also possible, especially in parts of Douglas and Bayfield counties.
Residents are urged to avoid non-essential overnight travel, secure loose outdoor items, and monitor alerts. Power outages and tree damage are possible through Sunday.
Another round of strong storms may return Sunday, particularly in northwestern Wisconsin. Stay weather-aware and be prepared for changing conditions.
