Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin are expected to face strong to potentially severe storms today, according to the National Weather Service. The first round of storms is anticipated early this morning in the Brainerd Lakes region, with a second round expected in the afternoon into the early evening across most of the Northland.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, primary hazards will include wind gusts between 40 to 60 mph and small hail, particularly around the Brainerd Lakes. Afternoon storms could bring isolated wind gusts up to 60 mph and large hail up to the size of half dollars in northwestern Wisconsin.

A weather model forecast shows scattered showers and storms throughout the day, with severe threats peaking at 1 PM and 4 PM. Following today’s storms, the region is expected to experience drier and milder weather for the remainder of the work week.

Starting Tuesday, isolated showers and storms are predicted in northern Minnesota, with temperatures ranging from 69°F to 77°F. Wednesday will bring partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures, with highs around 74°F. Thursday and Friday are expected to be mostly sunny and seasonal, with temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to low-80s.
