WILMINGTON, N.C. – Sunshine will dominate the Carolina coast this week as meteorological fall begins Tuesday, bringing warmer afternoons and dry skies. Wilmington residents can expect comfortable nights but rising daytime heat, with highs near 90 by late week.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, clear skies and light winds will persist through Friday, creating ideal travel and outdoor conditions across southeastern North Carolina. Drivers on I-40 and U.S. 17 should prepare for bright sun glare during morning and evening commutes, especially as school traffic increases.

Tuesday starts with a high near 82 under cloudless skies. By Wednesday, highs rise into the mid-80s, continuing to climb through the week. Thursday and Friday will feel more like midsummer, with afternoon highs in the upper 80s to near 90. Overnight lows remain mild, dipping into the upper 60s to low 70s, giving little relief from the daytime warmth.

Dry air will hold through Saturday, keeping humidity low and skies mostly clear. The first hint of unsettled weather may arrive by Sunday, when scattered showers and thunderstorms could return.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the sunny stretch, but heat precautions remain important — stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and limit peak-afternoon activity.
