SEATTLE, Wash. – Dangerous heat will grip Western Washington through midweek, with temperatures in the upper 80s to near 100 degrees raising the risk of heat-related illness across Seattle, Tacoma, and surrounding foothill communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, the Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 5 a.m. Wednesday. Daytime highs will peak in the upper 80s to low 90s across the metro core, while foothill and valley areas, including Maple Valley, Monroe, and Enumclaw, could push into the upper 90s. Overnight lows will only dip into the mid-60s, offering little relief.

Officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, avoid strenuous activity during peak heating, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling centers are open across King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. Dial 2-1-1 or visit wa211.org for locations. Pets and children should never be left inside vehicles, where temperatures can climb to life-threatening levels within minutes.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration advises outdoor workers to take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning and watch for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Emergency managers stress that heat stroke is a medical emergency requiring immediate 911 assistance.

The heat is expected to ease by Wednesday, but officials warn additional advisories could follow if temperatures remain elevated.
