Seattle, Washington – Seattle police are urging residents to avoid driving into downtown as up to one million people are expected to attend the Seahawks’ Super Bowl victory parade.
According to the Seattle Police Department, extensive street closures and pedestrian-only zones will be in place throughout downtown Seattle ahead of and during the parade celebration. Officers say driving into the city will likely result in severe delays, gridlock, and difficulty exiting affected areas.
Police warned that drivers should not expect to find parking anywhere near the parade route or downtown core. Large sections of streets are expected to be closed or restricted, particularly around Belltown, downtown, the Chinatown-International District, and areas near the waterfront and stadium district.
SPD officials said public transportation is strongly recommended for anyone planning to attend. Sound Transit light rail, commuter rail, and buses are expected to be the most reliable ways to access the parade route. Walking is also encouraged once inside the downtown area, as many streets will be inaccessible to vehicles.
Authorities emphasized that emergency access routes must remain clear and that illegally parked vehicles may be towed without notice. Police also reminded residents not to leave valuables or firearms inside vehicles, citing past incidents of vehicle break-ins during large-scale events.
Crowds are expected to begin gathering early in the morning, with congestion likely hours before the parade officially begins. Officials warned commuters not attending the event to plan alternate routes, work remotely if possible, or avoid downtown entirely.
SPD said officers will be deployed throughout the city to manage crowds, assist with directions, and maintain public safety during the celebration.
The department said updates on closures and transit access will be shared through official city and police social media channels.
