Seattle, WA – A police pursuit in Seattle took a dramatic turn Wednesday when a driver in a stolen vehicle allegedly launched across the University Bridge as it was lowering, according to the Seattle Police Department.

The incident happened September 17 at about 12:20 p.m., when officers attempted to stop a car with a stolen license plate near 10th Avenue East and East Boston Street. Police said the driver fled through residential neighborhoods before officers lost sight of the vehicle.

A short time later, officers located the car stopped in traffic on Eastlake Avenue East near the University Bridge. As police moved in to conduct what they described as a high-risk stop, the driver allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic, crashed through a safety gate, and accelerated toward the partially raised bridge.

According to police, the vehicle then jumped the open gap and became airborne, landing on the opposite side before continuing northbound. Officers later found the car abandoned near Pasadena Place East. The vehicle had suffered heavy damage from the incident, investigators said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the case, and authorities continue to investigate.
