Seattle, WA – A powerful wind event is sweeping across the Pacific Northwest this weekend, prompting multiple Wind Advisories from the National Weather Service offices in Seattle and Pendleton.
The advisories cover a wide area — including the Washington Coast, Puget Sound region, Yakima Valley, and the Columbia River Gorge, as well as central and eastern Oregon — and remain in effect through early Sunday morning.
In western Washington, winds will blow 20–35 mph with gusts between 45 and 50 mph, especially along the Grays Harbor coast, the Lower Chehalis River Valley, and San Juan Islands. The advisory is active until 5 AM PDT Sunday.
Farther south, the Pendleton, OR forecast office reports winds of 25–35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph across the Columbia Basin, Blue Mountain foothills, and Central Oregon, including Bend, Pendleton, Hermiston, and The Dalles. Advisory timing ranges from noon Saturday through 7 AM Sunday, depending on location.
Forecasters warn that tree limbs may fall, scattered power outages are possible, and high-profile vehicles could face dangerous crosswinds along exposed highways — including I-84, US-97, and US-12. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and exercise caution while driving.
Winds are expected to gradually ease by Sunday morning, followed by calmer, cooler weather to end the weekend.
