Seattle, WA – A dangerous stretch of heat will settle over western Washington starting Friday morning, with temperatures pushing into the upper 80s and low 90s across the Puget Sound region. The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for much of the state’s northwest and west-central counties, in effect from 11 a.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, high temperatures combined with warm overnight lows in the 60s will increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially for those without reliable cooling or hydration. The advisory covers King, Snohomish, Pierce, Thurston, and Lewis counties, along with the foothills of the Cascades and lowlands of the Olympic Peninsula.
Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, and Everett are expected to reach daily highs near 90 degrees through the weekend. Overnight cooling will be limited, raising concern for seniors, children, and people with health conditions. Officials urge residents to drink plenty of fluids, use air conditioning if available, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Pets should never be left in vehicles.
Travelers and outdoor workers should take precautions by limiting strenuous activity to morning or evening hours. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent shaded rest breaks and light clothing.
The heat risk will continue through Monday, with some relief possible by midweek. More advisories could follow if hot, dry conditions persist.
