Seattle, WA – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across much of the Washington Cascades through 4 a.m. Monday, as accumulating snowfall creates hazardous travel conditions on major mountain routes, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.
The advisory covers the Cascades of Snohomish and Northern King counties, Southern King County, and the Cascades of Pierce and Lewis counties. Impacted locations include Snoqualmie Pass, Stevens Pass, White Pass, Crystal Mountain, Mount Rainier (Longmire and Paradise), Greenwater, Ashford, and SR-18 at Tiger Mountain Summit.
Forecasters expect 6 to 12 inches of snow during the advisory period, with snowfall rates heavy at times. These conditions could make travel very difficult, especially overnight and into early Monday morning.
Roads through mountain passes may become snow-covered and slick, with reduced visibility during heavier snowfall. Officials warn that conditions can change rapidly, particularly near higher elevations and exposed areas.
In addition to travel hazards, power outages are possible as snow accumulates on trees and power lines, especially in higher terrain and foothill communities.
Drivers heading into the mountains are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and carry winter emergency supplies. Travelers should check the latest pass conditions and restrictions through the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) before departing.
The advisory impacts a wide stretch of western Washington’s Cascades, a heavily traveled region during the winter and holiday season.
