Seattle, Wash. – Smoke from ongoing wildfires in Washington and Canada has pushed air quality to unhealthy levels across parts of King and southern Snohomish counties, prompting an air quality alert through noon Saturday.
According to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, conditions have reached “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” and may worsen overnight as smoke remains trapped near the surface. The alert, issued Friday evening, advises residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activity and spend more time indoors, especially children, older adults, and people with respiratory conditions.
In Seattle, skies remained hazy early Saturday with visibility reduced despite temperatures holding near 61 degrees. Light showers are expected to develop later today, which could help thin smoke levels, but officials caution that relief will be gradual. Areas north and east of the city may see slightly worse impacts where winds remain lighter.
Health officials urge residents to close windows, use filtered air indoors when possible, and avoid prolonged exertion outside. Outdoor events and youth sports may face cancellations until conditions improve.
The air quality alert remains in effect until at least Saturday noon, with further updates possible if smoke persists into Sunday.
