Scottsburg, IN – An Austin man was arrested Tuesday night following a two-vehicle crash in Scott County that left two people seriously injured, including a 7-year-old child, according to Indiana State Police.
According to Indiana State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Marshfield Road, just north of Scottsburg in Scott County, part of the Louisville metro area. Trooper Aayvis Roush responded to reports of an injury crash involving two vehicles.
Police say the collision involved a silver Toyota Camry driven by 25-year-old Jacob E. Boley of Austin, Indiana, and a Buick passenger vehicle occupied by an adult driver and a 7-year-old child. Investigators reported that both occupants of the Buick were properly restrained at the time of the crash.
Due to the severity of injuries, the child was airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville. The adult driver of the Buick was transported by Scott County EMS to the University of Louisville Hospital. Authorities did not release updated conditions as of Tuesday night.
Based on observations made during the initial investigation, Trooper Roush initiated a separate Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) investigation while the Scott County Sheriff’s Department continued processing the crash scene. Following the investigation, Boley was taken into custody.
Police say Boley was arrested on preliminary charges including Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 4 felony; Operating While Intoxicated with a Prior Conviction, also a Level 6 felony; and Operating While Intoxicated Endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor.
Authorities stated that Boley was evaluated by medical staff at Norton Scott Hospital before being transported to the Scott County Jail. All charges are preliminary and pending review by the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office.
