Davenport, IA – A Davenport man has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison after being found in possession of child pornography while on supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Court documents state that David Anthony Tumea, 44, was residing at a residential reentry center as part of a supervised release tied to a 2014 federal conviction for firearm and ammunition possession. Staff discovered hidden flash drives in his hat during a security check, prompting further searches of his vehicle and room. Authorities ultimately seized 27 electronic devices, several of which contained child sexual abuse material.

According to prosecutors, Tumea was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison, followed by 18 months for violating his prior release terms. Upon completion of his incarceration, he must also serve a 10-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. In addition, the court ordered him to pay $35,000 in restitution.

U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentence, noting the case was investigated by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. The prosecution falls under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating child exploitation through federal, state, and local partnerships.
