Davenport, Iowa – Drivers in eastern Iowa should avoid low-lying roads near the Wapsipinicon River this week as moderate flooding continues through early Saturday. U.S. Highway 61 near DeWitt is among the areas at risk as river levels approach major flood stage.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the Wapsipinicon River reached 11.7 feet late Sunday and is forecast to crest at 12.4 feet by early Wednesday morning—well above its 11-foot flood stage. Water levels are not expected to drop below flood stage until Friday evening. The Flood Warning remains in effect for Scott and Clinton counties.

Low-lying areas and river-adjacent roads could become impassable, especially near DeWitt. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and exercise caution along riverbanks. Flooding along other eastern Iowa tributaries will also persist into the weekend.

Tuesday: Sunny with highs in the low 80s. Calm river conditions, but levels continue rising.
Wednesday: Crest near 12.4 feet expected early morning. Sunny skies, high near 86°F.
Thursday: River begins gradual fall. Mostly sunny, high near 89°F.
Friday: Floodwaters remain above stage until evening. Highs near 90°F.
Saturday: Storm chances return, especially overnight, with a 30% chance of rain.

While skies stay mostly dry through Friday, residents should stay weather-aware as water levels fluctuate. Additional advisories could follow if rainfall develops by the weekend.
