Portsmouth, OH – Two men were arrested early Saturday morning after deputies responded to a shots fired call at a Portsmouth residence, according to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Sheriff David Thoroughman, the Scioto County 9-1-1 Communications Center received multiple calls reporting gunfire around 2:41 a.m. Saturday, January 3, in the area of 5124 Swagger Valley Road in Portsmouth. Deputies arrived to find several individuals at the scene and multiple firearms present.
A detective was called in to process the scene and begin an investigation. Authorities confirmed that one individual was treated at the scene and later released from Southern Ohio Medical Center for a possible gunshot wound.
Following the investigation, deputies arrested William Durham, 26, of 5124 Swagger Valley Road, Portsmouth, and Jabez Stephen Durham, 28, of 102 Washington Blvd. West, Portsmouth. Both men were charged with felonious assault, a felony offense under Ohio law.
According to the sheriff’s office, both suspects were booked into the Scioto County Jail and later released after posting a $20,000 bond each. They are scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted deputies during the response and investigation. Authorities say the case remains ongoing.
