Sandpoint, ID – Heavy snow and strong winds continue to impact North Idaho’s higher elevations tonight, as the National Weather Service in Spokane maintains a Winter Storm Warning for the Northern Panhandle through 5 a.m. Monday, October 13.

According to the National Weather Service, areas above 3,000 feet—including Eastport and Schweitzer Mountain Road—can expect 2 to 6 inches of snow between 3,000 and 4,000 feet and up to 12 inches above 4,000 feet. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph, leading to reduced visibility and blowing snow.

Forecasters warn that the combination of wet, heavy snow and strong winds may break tree limbs, potentially causing isolated power outages overnight. Those in backcountry areas should prepare for rapidly deteriorating conditions, with wind chills dropping into the single digits by early morning.

Travelers are urged to use caution, carry emergency supplies, and check Idaho’s 511 travel line for real-time road conditions.
