Schererville, IN – In the wake of a devastating fire at Sherwood Lake Apartments in Schererville, the St. John Township Trustee is spearheading a donation drive to aid the displaced residents. According to the Trustee’s office, the blaze that erupted on Thursday, February 29, affected 35 units, leaving 40 residents without homes. The Schererville Police Department, under Police Chief Sormaz, promptly notified the Trustee’s office of the incident.

The Trustee’s office, collaborating closely with the Red Cross, is extending its support to the victims, reminiscent of its response to past fires within the Township. Recognizing the urgent need for assistance, the Red Cross has designated the Township as a key collection point for donations.

Community members are encouraged to contribute through various means, including VISA and fuel gift cards, toiletries, Walmart and local grocery store gift cards, or monetary donations specifically earmarked for “Sherwood Lake Apartments Fire Victims.” Contributions can be made during business hours at the St. John Township Trustee Office, located at 1515 W. Lincoln Hwy., Schererville.

This initiative highlights the collective effort of first responders, the St. John Township staff, and the broader community in rallying together to support those affected by the tragedy.
