Schaumburg, IL – A Schaumburg man was arrested for attempted murder after allegedly shooting a landscape worker at his residence.
According to police reports to begin on July 24 around 2:50 PM when Schaumburg police responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 800 block of S. Braintree Drive. The suspect, identified as Michael Lang, 55, retreated to his garage after shooting the victim, a 65-year-old Hanover Park man, in the abdomen. Officers located the victim on the front yard and provided emergency medical treatment before transporting him to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
Police say The incident began when Lang confronted the landscaping crew, hired by the homeowner, about noise levels. Lang reportedly told them to leave while they were gathering their equipment. Lang then retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and fired one round into the victim’s abdomen.
Following a standoff, Lang surrendered peacefully and was taken into police custody. The Schaumburg Police requested the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System to assist during the standoff. Lang was later taken to the hospital for treatment and subsequently transported to the Schaumburg Police Department for further investigation.
No other injuries were reported. The Cook County States Attorney Office charged Lang with one count of attempted murder/intent to kill or injure and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm. Lang is scheduled to appear in court on July 26 in Rolling Meadows.
