Schaumburg, IL – Schaumburg Township Elementary School District 54 has selected longtime educator and current Associate Superintendent Jillian Sagan to become its next superintendent, continuing a leadership career that began in the district about 20 years ago.
According to District 54, the School Board selected Sagan during a vote Thursday night. She will succeed Superintendent Andy DuRoss, who is scheduled to retire in June 2027.
Board President Nick Scipione said before the vote that Sagan is the right person to continue the district’s focus on high expectations, student belonging, academic success and well-being.
Sagan has held numerous positions during her two decades with District 54. She began as a paraprofessional before serving as a teacher at Lincoln Prairie School.
Her career later included roles as assistant principal at Mead Junior High, principal at both Mead and Blackwell Elementary School, assistant superintendent and, most recently, associate superintendent.
In remarks following her selection, Sagan pledged to lead with integrity and communicate openly while maintaining District 54’s traditions and continuing to pursue improvement.
“I will honor the traditions that have made District 54 successful and make decisions that reflect what is best for our students,” Sagan said.
The leadership transition will not happen immediately. Sagan will have the opportunity to work alongside DuRoss throughout the upcoming school year before his planned retirement in June 2027, providing an extended transition period before she assumes the district’s top leadership position.
Sagan also thanked colleagues and others who supported her throughout her career.
