Christian County, MO – The Christian County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam involving individuals impersonating deputies. The scammers use the name “Michael Thomas,” falsely claiming to be a sergeant or lieutenant.

These scammers are employing caller ID spoofing, making it appear as though the call is from the Sheriff’s Office’s official number, 824-4961. The caller informs the target of a supposed warrant and tries to obtain payment over the phone.

The Sheriff’s Office stresses that they will never contact residents by phone regarding warrants or request payment through any phone call. Authorities have already received about 20 reports regarding this scam on Wednesday alone, highlighting the prevalence and urgency of the issue.

The Sheriff’s Office urges residents who receive such calls to hang up immediately and contact their office to verify any concerns. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant, protect themselves from fraud, and report any suspicious calls to local authorities.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office continues to monitor the situation and warns residents to be cautious when answering unknown calls. Public awareness is crucial in preventing further victimization by this scam.
