Sarasota, Florida – A welfare check Saturday morning led to a death investigation in a Sarasota neighborhood.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 10:32 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, to a 911 call requesting a welfare check in the 7000 block of Tides Circle. The caller reported concern for a friend who had made unusual and worrying statements earlier that day.

When deputies arrived, they observed two injured people inside the residence. Authorities said deputies entered the home and found Lily Z. Yard, 27, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Jordan M. Rouff, 28, was reportedly still alive with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

Detectives with the agency’s Criminal Investigation Section determined that Rouff and Yard allegedly had an on-again, off-again relationship and had recently moved in together. Next of kin have been notified.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.

The incident prompted a law enforcement response in the residential community late Saturday morning, drawing attention from nearby residents. The case may be of particular concern to young adults and families in the area.
